Our Courses

Whether you’re taking your first steps into aviation or progressing towards a professional airline career, Stapleford Flight Centre offers a complete range of pilot training courses designed to guide you from first flight to commercial pilot.

Our training programmes combine professional instruction, modern aircraft, and structured pathways to help you achieve your aviation goals in the UK or Europe.

Your Pilot Training Pathway

1. Private Pilot Licence (PPL)

The Private Pilot Licence is the first step in your aviation journey. This course introduces the fundamentals of flight, including aircraft handling, navigation, communication with Air Traffic Control, and flight planning.

Training includes:

  • Aircraft handling and flight fundamentals
  • Circuit training and first solo flight
  • Cross-country navigation and flight planning
  • Radio communication and airspace procedures

Students need to complete 40 hours which must include dual flight instruction as required and 10 hours of supervised solo flying, culminating in the PPL Skills Test.

The PPL provides the foundation required to progress to professional pilot training.

2. Flight Experience Building

After completing a PPL, pilots must build additional flying experience before progressing to commercial training.

Our Flight Experience Course helps pilots develop their flying skills while gaining the flight hours required for CPL training.

Training includes:

  • Advanced navigation flights
  • Controlled airspace operations
  • Night flying training
  • Long cross-country flights including the 300nm qualifying cross-country

Flights are conducted primarily in the Cessna 152, with additional hour-building available in PA28 / PA28R aircraft.

3. ATPL Theoretical Knowledge

The Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) Theory Course provides the academic knowledge required for airline-level flying.

Delivered full-time at Stapleford Flight Centre, the course covers 13 ATPL subjects, including:

  • Principles of Flight
  • General Navigation
  • Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Meteorology
  • Radio Navigation
  • Operations
  • Human Performance and Limitations
  • Flight Planning
  • Instrumentation
  • Communications
  • Performance
  • Mass & Balance
  • Air Law

Students attend approximately 6 hours of classroom instruction per day, supported by structured self-study.

Duration: 7–8 months

4. Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)

The Commercial Pilot Licence allows pilots to be paid to fly and represents a major milestone in professional pilot training.

CPL training focuses on developing the precision, discipline, and decision-making required for professional flight operations.

Training includes:

  • Advanced aircraft handling
  • Complex aircraft operations
  • Precision navigation and flight planning
  • Professional cockpit procedures

Students complete the CPL Skill Test, demonstrating the standard required of commercial pilots.

5. Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) Rating

The Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) Rating introduces pilots to operating aircraft with more than one engine, marking an important step toward commercial flying.

Training focuses on the handling, performance, and systems of multi-engine aircraft, with particular emphasis on safety and decision-making in abnormal situations.

Training includes:

  • Multi-engine aircraft handling
  • Asymmetric flight (engine-out procedures)
  • Engine failure recognition and management
  • Performance and aircraft systems
  • Emergency procedures

The MEP Rating is a key requirement for progressing to advanced instrument and commercial training.

6. Instrument Rating (IR)

The Instrument Rating (IR) develops the ability to fly solely by reference to instruments, enabling pilots to operate safely in low visibility and under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).

This qualification allows pilots to operate in controlled airspace and is essential for professional flying.

Training includes:

  • Instrument flight procedures and navigation
  • Precision and non-precision approaches
  • IFR operations and controlled airspace
  • Flight planning and situational awareness
  • Abnormal and emergency procedures

The IR is a core component of the CPL/IR qualification required for airline careers.

7. AUPRT (Advanced Upset Prevention & Recovery Training)

Advanced Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (AUPRT) prepares pilots to recognise, prevent, and recover from unusual aircraft attitudes.

Building on skills introduced during CPL training, the course combines theoretical knowledge with practical flight instruction to develop confidence and control in unexpected situations.

Training includes:

  • Upset recognition and prevention
  • Stall and unusual attitude recovery
  • Manual handling and aircraft control
  • Awareness of physiological and psychological effects

AUPRT is a mandatory requirement prior to multi-crew training and forms an essential step in professional pilot development.

8. MCC (Multi-Crew Co-operation)

The Multi-Crew Co-operation (MCC) course prepares pilots for airline operations by developing the skills required to work effectively in a multi-pilot environment.

Training focuses on communication, teamwork, and decision-making within a professional flight deck setting.

Training includes:

  • Crew communication and coordination
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Workload management
  • Decision-making and leadership
  • Multi-crew flight scenarios in a simulator

The MCC course is typically completed in a multi-crew simulator and is an essential step before applying to airlines.

Professional Pilot Training Packages

For students starting with no previous flying experience, we offer structured Professional Pilot Training Packages.

Training can be completed via:

Modular Route

  • Flexible training completed at your own pace
  • Full-time or part-time study options

Integrated Route

  • Structured full-time professional training programme

Both routes lead to the Commercial Pilot Licence with Instrument Rating (CPL/IR) and provide the qualifications required to pursue a career as a professional pilot.
